    • A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 14, 2022 at an 11:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Henry Roy "The Chief" Longcrier, age 85, who passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at St. Agnes Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Breaux Bridge.

      Interment will be at a later date. Deacon Nelson Schexnayder of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services.

      Henry was born on January 9, 1937 in Colcord, Oklahoma to Ervin and Linnie Martin Longcrier. He graduated from Kansas High School in Kansas, Oklahoma, Class of 1955. Henry attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. He worked as a high school business teacher for many years. Henry went on to work for Dowell Schlumberger as a Sales Manager, and retired in 1998.

      He enjoyed to play golf, travelled, and gardened, especially growing loofahs, which he loved to give to people as gifts. A proud veteran, Henry actively served in the United States Army. He spent two years serving in Fort Hood, Texas, and two years stationed in Germany. Henry was active in the Carencro Senior Golf Association, Carencro Retired Golf Association, and the Carencro Veterans Club. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette. Henry never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

      Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Dena Sonnier Longcrier of Lafayette; two sisters, Hester Kater of Santa Fe, TX and Thelma Brown of Siloam Springs, AR; and numerous dear nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene Longcrier and Herbert Longcrier; and a sister, Patty Reid.

      The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

      The family wishes to thank the staffs of Hospice of Acadiana and of Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Henry and his family. A special thanks is extended to his oncologist, Dr. Molly.
