    • Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for A. J. Antoine, age 88, who died at 1:30 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hospice Carpenter House in Lafayette.

      Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery.

      Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Kallie Colomb and Ethan Antoine. Giftbearers will be Isabelle Antoine, Layla Barrosse, Lilly Antoine and Ashley Antoine. Raymond Hebert, accompanied on the organ by Tom Niel, will sing for the services "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "Psalm 23", "How Great Thou Art", "On Eagles' Wings", and "Be Not Afraid".

      Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Sally Bourg Antoine of Lafayette; a daughter, Lisa Antoine Colomb and her husband, Colby; two sons, David G. Antoine and his wife, Paula Delhomme Antoine and Mark J. Antoine; five grandchildren, Ashley, Anthony, Ethan J. and Isabelle Antoine and Kallie Colomb; two great grandchildren, Lilly Antoine and Layla Barrosse; and one sister, Ann Boustany.

      He was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Antoine; one grandson, Jacob Antoine; his parents, Joseph Antoine and the former Mathile Hannie Antoine; a sister, Adele Antoine; and a brother Stephen J. Antoine.

      A. J. was born on June 9, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a graduate of USL, receiving his Bachelor's degree in 1951 and Master's Degree of Education in 1962. A. J. was certified with a Louisiana Type A Certificate, Valid for Life in areas of Certification in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Science and Social Studies. He obtained his Master's Degree in Supervision and Administration and was Certified to be Superintendent, and Supervisor and Principal. A. J. was the Director of Secondary Education and Supervisor of Mathematics and Science, Grades 7-12 from 1966 - 1987. A. J. was Supervisor of Student Teaching at USL from 1987 to 2001. He served as Personnel Director during the 1973-74 school year. A. J. was Principal of Broussard Elementary School, Grades 1-8 from 1962 - 1966. He was a High School Teacher of Chemistry and General Science, Supervisor of Student Teachers, Grades 9-12 at Lafayette High School from 1958-1962. He was a Junior High Teacher of Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, Supervisor of Student Teachers at Lafayette Elementary School from 1954-1958 and was a Sixth Grade Teacher at South Rayne Elementary School from 1951 to 1954. During his 20 years as Director of Secondary Education, he was Coordinator of Parish Science Fairs and the Parish Summer School, Grades 8-12.

      A. J. was a former President of the Southwest Louisiana Supervisors' Association, former President of the Gulf South Louisiana Supervisors' Association, former President of the Lafayette Football Officials' Associaton and former Executive Council Member of the Louisiana Education Research Association. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity for Professional Educators, Recipient of two (2) National Science Foundation Summer Institutes in Science and Math at USL, former Chairman of the Lafayette Parish Vocational Education Advisory Committee for four years and a former member of the Louisiana Associaton of School Executives--LASE.

      A. J. was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying primarily hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of the Krewe of Gabriel and was a past Duke. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited.

      A. J. will be remembered for his true love of his family and friends.

      Pallbearers will be David Antoine, Mark Antoine, Anthony Antoine, Ethan Antoine, Colby Colomb and Francis Boustany, Jr.

      Honorary Pallbearers will be Bo Ramsay, Jack Patin, Jack Hulett, Steve Dekle, Dr. Huey McCauley and Chester Derbes.

      The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time to leave for the Cathedral at 10:30 AM.

      A Rosary will be prayed by Brady LeBlanc Friday at 6:30 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

      A. J.'s Family would like to express their appreciation to his physicians, nurses, caregivers and the staffs at Lafayette General Medical Center and The Carpenter House for the beautiful care given A. J. in his time of need.
